There are almost 50 entries at the moment for Round 2 of the Italian Rallycross Championship, scheduled for Easter and Easter Monday at the Maggiora Offroad Arena.

RX5/Supercar

The winner of Round 1, Gian Maria Gabbiani (Skoda Fabia R5), to repeat the success of the first round will have to overcome rather fierce opponents, starting with Fabio Mezzatesta, who has improved the feeling with his Peugeot 208 R5 and is intent on giving Gabbiani and the four drivers present a hard time, including the patron of the twin track of Maggiora Offroad Arena, the Maggiora Park, Stefano Avandero (Skoda Fabia R5); there will also be the welcome return to Maggiora of the experienced South Tyrolean driver Werner Gurschler at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia R5, while the entrepreneur Maurizio Rossi (Hyundai i20 R5) will be making his debut both at Maggiora and at the wheel of an RX5. Last among the entrants Rachele Somaschini, protagonist of the European Rally and making her debut in Rallycross with a Skoda Fabia R5.

So far there is only one Supercar entrant, Michele Andolina with his Fiat Punto.

STC/Super 1600

It promises to be a good fight in the STC - 1600, the new entry category of the season: Super1600 Italian runner-up Paolo 'Popy' Barbieri has changed category with the Citroen C2 and will be battling with STC 2000 runner-up Matteo Valazza (Citroen Saxo), with Marco Valsesia and cousins Daniele and Damiano Delfino, all on Citroen Saxo.

The only survivors in the STC 2000 and STC + 2000 categories are Marco Nicolini (Peugeot 205) and reigning Italian champion Alberto Palestrini (Renault Super5), respectively.

In Super1600 it will be a two-way challenge between Armando Tocchio (Peugeot 106) and the 2017 and 2019 Italian champion Marco Valazza in his trusty Ford Fiesta.

Kartcross

The winner of Round 1, tri-campeon Marcello Gallo (Lifelive TN5), could not be absent. Expected to confirm his performance after the extraordinary race at Ittiri is the young Valentino Ledda (Ya-Car), while Riccardo Canzian and his Speedcar Xtreme will want to return to the podium after his third place in the Round 1 final.

Also at the start will be two-time Italian Speed on Ice Champion Christian Tiramani (Planet Kartcross K3), eager to make up for the disappointment of Ittiri, Nicolò Grieco (GMN), fourth in Sardinia, and Riccardo Vacciaga (Planet Kartcross K3), fifth in Round 1.

Among the drivers at the start were also Bomberos (Planet Kartcross K3) patron of the GrisuRallySport stable, which will be present in force, and former Italian Champions Maicol Giacomotti (Planet Kartcross K3) and Gabriele Zoppetti (Viper Master Racing).

Several foreign drivers were present, all from Belgium and all on the Neuville brothers' LifeLiveTN: Kobe Pauwels, Arnaud Demelenne, Lukas Schwall, Tom Hendrichs.

Ledda, Pauwels, Marcus Antonio Martinelli (GMN) and Matteo Bernini (KC) will also compete for the Acisport Under 18 Italian Rallycross Trophy.

Side By Side

The Side By Side will also return to Maggiora after a few years with three riders: Claudio Esposito (Polaris CP Pro 1000T), Sebastian Gjezi (Yamaha YXZ 1000R) and Michele Mannocchi (Yamaha YXZ 1000R).

SAV

A total of 98 cars will be competing in the Swiss Autocross Championship, divided as follows: 23 in Gruppe A, 9 in Gruppe B, 10 in Gruppe C, 30 in Gruppe D, 26 in Gruppe E.

In total there will therefore be almost 150 cars competing at Easter and Easter Monday: the two days of racing at the Maggiora Offroad Arena will therefore be a real motorsport festival, not to be missed by fans!

The programme

The highlight of the event, which will begin on Saturday 16 April, will be on Sunday 17, with Heat 1 SAV at 12 noon, Q1 RX at 4pm, followed by Heat 2 SAV, but most importantly on Monday 18: Q2 RX at 9am, Heat 3 SAV at 10am, Q3 RX at 11am, Q4 RX at 2pm, Q4 RX at 3.15pm, RX Semi-finals and followed by SAV and RX Finals.

Tickets already on sale

At last the public can once again crowd the grandstands of the Maggiora Offroad Arena in (almost) complete freedom, among other things at a decidedly affordable cost: €20.00 for the weekend and €15.00 for Monday only. Admission for children up to 13 years of age is free of charge.
