Two beautiful sunny days characterised Round 2 of the Italian Rallycross Championship: the almost 150 drivers present (including the protagonists of the Swiss Autocross Championship), entertained the large audience present with great duels and spectacular overtaking.
The first day of the race on Sunday was marked by Daniele Caronelli's accident during free practice: taken to hospital in Novara, he underwent back surgery. Fortunately, the operation went well and Caronelli will make a full recovery.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery go to him from the entire staff of Maggiora Offroad Arena and RX Italia.
RX5/Supercar
Victory on his category debut for South Tyrolean Werner Gurschler, at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia, with a time of 4'49"619 over the six laps envisaged in the final. Truly spectacular this category with many overtaking and duels, both during the Q and during the final: in second position came another luxury rookie, Maggiora Park's Stefano Avandero (Skoda Fabia), who preceded Maurizio Rossi (Hyundai i20), also making his debut.
Among the Supercars, victory went to The Professor Michele Andolina (5'23"769), who in his Fiat Grande Punto preceded Rosario Corallo (Subaru Impreza).
STC/Super 1600
Dominance, with three wins out of 4 Qs and the final victory, for Paolo Popy Barbieri who found the right set up for his Citroen C2 in the STC - 1600: 5'10"605 was Barbieri's final time, ahead of Marco Valsesia (Citroen Saxo) and Daniele Delfino (Citroen Saxo). Left without his only opponent, Armando Tocchio, Marco Valazza won the final classification of the mixed Super 1600/STC category (5'18"925), ahead of Marco Nicolini (Citroen AX) first in STC -2000, and Arianna Corallo (Opel Astra STC -2000).
Kartcross
Great performance by Christian Tiramani (Planet Kart Cross), who with an excellent start took the first position in the final not to leave it any more: 4'41"383 was the final time of the Romagnolo who preceded Maicol Giacomotti (Planet Kart Cross) and Round 1 winner Marcello Gallo (Lifelive TN5).
The next appointment
Round 3 will be held again at the Maggiora Offroad Arena, but in the Reverse format, on 21/22 May.
