It has been a truly intense two days: the seventh round of the FIA European Autocross Championship, the Borgo Agnello Trophy, which has just come to an end, was a great success, with 140 drivers from 15 countries competing in exciting races that thrilled spectators from all over Europe.

Super Buggy

An exciting challenge, not without its rough patches, between Czech Republic representatives Petr NIKODÉM (CM Racing Honda) and Zdeněk ANTONY (Alfa Racing AR-002), respectively leader of the standings before Maggiora and reigning champion: NIKODÉM got off to a better start in the final, but ANTONY overtook him on the first lap and did well to defend his position in the following laps; However, ANTONY committed a slight foul during the overtaking maneuver, which was then punished with a two-second penalty, enough to drop him to second place, with the two finishing just 479 thousandths of a second apart.

Victory therefore went to NIKODÉM in 5'16"262, over the seven laps of the Maggiora track, ahead of ANTONY by 1.5 seconds; third place went to Germany's Marco FÜRST (Fast & Speed / SuperBuggy) at over 5 seconds.

Davide CASARIN performed well, finishing in eighth place, first among the Italians and the only Italian driver to qualify for the final.

Buggy 1600

There was also a battle between compatriots in this category, but this time between Dutch drivers: in the end, victory went to Nathan OTTINK (Peters / 1600), who won in 5'03"862. It should be noted that OTTINK, winner of the Junior Buggy title last year, is only in his second race with Buggy1600. Second place went to another Dutchman, Rudy VAN BUREN (Peters Autosport / Buggy 1600), 2.024 seconds behind the winner.

Third place went to Germany's Rene MANDEL (F&S Chassis / Buggy 1600), 3.824 seconds behind OTTINK.

Junior Buggy

The Czech Republic was also a major player in this category, with another double victory: Ladislav HANÁK (Alfa Racing / Suzuki), who is in his first year in the category, won the final in 5'10"209, just 618 thousandths ahead of his compatriot Martin KOLOMÝ (Alfa Racing Junior Buggy). Third place, more than 2 seconds behind, went to Dutchman Tinus FRANSSEN (JVDC / GSX-R).

The final was suspended due to an accident, fortunately without serious consequences for the drivers, and then resumed from the start.

Cross Car

He likes the Maggiora track: Spaniard Ivan PIÑA CHINCHILLA (LifeLive TN11), often a protagonist at Pragiarolo, had a perfect race, winning with a time of 5'10"859. Second place went to Frenchman Yoann GILLOUIN (Camotos Rapace) at 1.7 seconds, followed by his compatriot Vincent MERCIER (Speed-Car Wonder-R) at 3.7 seconds.

Worth noting is the seventh place finish by Italian Matteo ALTOÈ (Speedcar / Wonder MT09).

Junior Cross Car

Abel GONZALEZ VIAL (Lifelive / TN 11) secured a fine victory in 5’35”286: the Spaniard finished 1”2 ahead of Belgian Jordan GENTEN (Camotos Rapace) and 9”2 ahead of his compatriot Iago RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ (Lifelive / TN 11).

A great weekend

This brings to an end a fantastic weekend, a huge celebration that involved the whole town of Maggiora, starting on Friday evening with the Notte Bianca (White Night) and a parade of the championship's leading cars through the streets of the town center, continuing on Saturday evening with the Pizza Party: once again, Maggiora and the European Autocross Championship have shown that they are united by a very strong bond!
